Did you know that inflammation in your body can manifest in a number of different ways? Here I explain a little more about how Inflammation builds up, how it affects us all, and how to reduce inflammation in the body fast with Nettles.

What causes inflammation?

Everyday experiences can be contributing factors that cause a stress response thus leading to inflammation.

  • trauma or emotional experience
  • worry or anxiety
  • insufficient or poor quality sleep
  • inadequate or unhealthy diet
  • insufficient exercise

These contributing factors we experiences trigger a hormonal response which causes production and release of adrenaline and cortisol into the bloodstream.

This is a normal response, and our bodies way of fighting infection or self healing.

Chronic inflammation

Over production of these hormones, however (ie too much stress response, or prolonged stress) can result in chronic inflammation.

Chronic inflammation manifests physically and presents in a number of ways including skin inflammation like Eczema, Psoriasis, Dermatitis, joint inflammation like Arthritis, Rheumatism and Psoriatic Arthritis as well as scalp inflammation like scalp eczema/Psoriasis, dandruff and hair loss.

So here’s how to reduce inflammation in the body fast with Nettles

Stinging nettle (Urtica Dioica) has strong natural anti-inflammatory properties that work effectively to reduce inflammation and flush toxins from the system. The healing benefits help to relieve the symptoms relating to these various chronic illnesses.

How easy is it to get the Nettle Goodness?

The anti inflammatory properties of nettles can be accessed in a number of ways.

Internally

Adding Nettles to supplement your diet

The healing properties and benefits of nettles are available as a supplement in capsule or tablet form, a tincture preparation or a powder that can be added to meals. Get all the nettle goodness by using fresh nettles.

Add the leaves into smoothies, or blend into pesto. Alternatively, cook nettles as you would spinach and other leafy greens and Add fresh leaves to soups and stews, bake into herb bread or scones, there are some great recipes available online including risotto and pasta dishes.

Tinctures can be made quite simply by adding fresh plant material to either alcohol or glycerine. Leave the preparation to infuse and extract the properties of the herb over a period of 4-6 weeks. The preparation can then be strained and bottled. A few drops under the tongue will absorb into the bloodstream quickly and provide a potent dose of the nettle goodness. Alternatively, dilute a few drops of the tincture in a small amount of water and drink.

Externally

Blended into Creams, Balms and Oils

Another great way to releave inflammation naturally with nettles is to use natural skin and hair care products made with nettle extract. The Nettle goodness can be extracted in a number of ways, namely by infusing fresh leaves in hot water or dried nettle leaves or seeds in a carrier oil.

After the preparations have been strained the water (tea) or oil can then be combined with other ingredients to prepare a variety of creams, balms or oils.

What type of Nettle products are there?

I have been suffering with a foot bunion that was very painful. After using the Nettle balm, I am amazed at how the inflammation and the pain just disappeared, I would totally recommend this balm. And, BONUS, you can travel with it and apply anytime as there is no strong smell like other rubs. Thank you Bronwyn for the recommendation.

Myself and two of my three kids have struggled with eczema. One of my wee kids is only 14 months old so treating her skin has been an absolute nightmare. Our doctor has prescribed every cream under the sun including cortizone which is far from ideal on a babies wee face.

I could see the change in my babies skin within 6 hours of applying the Nettle Cream & 3 days later her eczema cleared up. I was applying 3 times a day and currently we are applying the cream once a day and will reduce that over time. Amazing product!!
