In recent years, the number of skincare brands at our fingertips has boomed and we’re now seeing far more natural skin care products being brought to the market. This can make it difficult to create, maintain or understand what a ‘good’ skincare routine looks like.

Skin is the largest organ in the body and absorbs everything you put on it. You may already be aware of this, but if not, ask anyone with an allergy or intolerance to some kind of food. They often experience an adverse reaction when in contact with the skin too, not just by ingesting it.

It’s important to keep this in mind when it comes to living a healthy and natural lifestyle as what you put on your skin is just as important as what you put in your body.

On average, we use 9 different personal care products daily which could contain up to 126 different ingredients, not including the additional synthetic fragrances used which can contain hundreds if not thousands of ingredients. Those numbers are staggering.

The Wild Nettle Co. products contain nothing but natural ingredients, are handmade in small batches, and use sustainable packaging. We’ve highlighted a few of our fabulous favourite natural ingredients below with just some of their benefits.

Some of our favourite natural ingredients

Shea Butter

A natural butter extracted from the nuts of the shea tree, this product is perfect for softening skin and even has anti-inflammatory properties making it the perfect addition to our Nettle Cream, working hard to soothe sensitive, inflamed skin or flare-ups. Shea Butter dates back to ancient Egypt with Cleopatra and Queen Sheba appearing to use this in their beauty routine.

Lavender Essential Oils

One of the most popular oils used in skincare and aromatherapy, lavender not only helps with relaxation, anxiety, and depression but also has powerful anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. This means lavender is the perfect addition to our Nettle Eczema Soap and Nettle Cream.

Jojoba Oil

As well as being used for treating skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and acne, jojoba oil is often used in a variety of natural skin care products. Frequently found in cleansers, moisturisers, and spot treatments. The antibacterial and antifungal properties make it a great barrier product. We just love how smooth it makes our Nettle Hair Growth Oil and Nettle Beard Oil – helping to soothe both face and scalp inflammation.

Nettle Leaf

This incredibly versatile herb can be used in botanicals, textiles, and in food. It’s high in Vitamin A, iron, and calcium supporting overall wellness and, when used in skincare has excellent anti-inflammatory benefits. Nettles are also a gorgeous natural tonic for hair health – read more about Why Nettle is so Good for your Hair here

Nettle use has been recorded as far back as the Bronze Age, and there are records of Julius Caesar’s troops using it to help them stay awake and alert at night.

All of the natural hair and skin care products produced at The Wild Nettle Co, are handmade with oils infused with dried nettle, the old-fashioned way. This is where the plant power works its magic.

Frankincense

Frankincense is a powerful anti-inflammatory and has great calming properties for sunburn, rosacea, and acne. In 1500, the oil was so precious that Queen Hatshepsut of Egypt organized an expedition in Somalia to research its properties and benefits. We’ve added some of this wonderful ingredient to our Nettle Bath Muscle Soak Bath Salts making for ultimate relaxation. It’s also in the Nettle Joint Pain Balm for stiff, sore muscles and joints.
